KANSAS TO HOST MIDWEST ELECTION
OVERLAND PARK, KS- Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh, in conjunction with other Secretaries of State from the Midwest, will host the fifth Midwest Election Officials Conference in Overland Park, Kansas on December 11 – 14 at the Overland Park Convention Center.
The conference comes at a time when election officials are working to implement the requirements of the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA). This year’s conference will address many topics relating to this Act, as well as other timely election issues.
“It is truly an exciting time to be an election administrator,” stated Ron Thornburgh. “Through HAVA, we are making our voting system more uniform, more accurate, and more accessible and I believe our election officials understand the significance of the monumental changes taking place. They are to be commended for the great work they do."
More than 250 election officials from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa are expected to attend the four-day conference. Topics will include youth voter turnout, polling place accessibility, voter fraud, vote centers, management guidelines for voting systems and the future of the election administration profession.
