Monday, December 22, 2025
TOPEKA – Secretary of State Scott Schwab today announced the appointment of Connie Schmidt as Interim Johnson County Election Commissioner.
Schmidt will serve in the interim role through September 1, overseeing the administration of elections in Johnson County. Following March elections in Johnson County, the statutory process to appoint a permanent successor will begin.
“Connie brings experience and institutional knowledge,” Schwab said. “I am confident she will ensure elections in Johnson County continue to be administered in a secure manner during this interim period.”
Schmidt is returning to service in election administration and brings more than 27 years of experience.
She served as Johnson County Election Commissioner from 1995 to 2004 and was reappointed to that position in 2020 to mentor the county’s next election commissioner. Currently, she serves as a certified election training instructor, a program launched under the Schwab administration, providing education and guidance to election officials across Kansas.
