One Month Countdown Until Candidate Filing Deadline

TOPEKA – Today marks one month until the candidate filing deadline in Kansas. Individuals seeking to run for state or statewide office must file in person with the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office by noon on June 1. Candidates for local office must also file by noon on June 1 with their respective county election offices.
Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab will formally close the filing period at noon, marking the official end of candidate filing for the 2026 election cycle.
“Many candidates have already filed,” Schwab said. “I encourage eligible Kansans to consider running for office. This marks our first filing deadline day in the Docking State Office Building.”
An updated list of 2026 candidates are available on the Secretary of State’s website and will be updated as soon as possible following the filing deadline day.
Offices up for election this cycle include:
- U.S. House of Representatives
- U.S. Senate
- Governor and Lieutenant Governor
- State Treasurer
- Insurance Commissioner
- Secretary of State
- Attorney General
- All seats in the Kansas House of Representatives
- Two special election State Senate
- State Board of Education (5 of 10 seats)
