Monday, June 29, 2026
TOPEKA – Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on the acceptance of mail ballots:
“The Supreme Court's decision reaffirmed that the US Constitution grants state legislatures the authority and discretion to determine whether or not a state will accept and count mail ballots postmarked by election day but received after polls close. In 2025, the Kansas Legislature decided not to authorize a grace period.”
The case was Watson v. Republican National Committee. The text of the opinion can be found here.
