Schwab Reminds Kansans of Election Night Reporting Webpage

Tuesday, November 5, 2024

TOPEKA – Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab reminds Kansans that the election night reporting webpage will go live today at 5 p.m. on the Secretary of State’s website to provide unofficial election results.

The Secretary of State’s website is the primary source for Kansans to view statewide unofficial election results, as counties report the results following tabulation. Once polls close at 7 p.m. local time, initial results will be posted on the election night webpage. Initial results typically reflect advance voting, with Election Day ballots reported throughout the remainder of the evening. Provisional ballots, however, will not be counted until the County Board of Canvassers meet, which must occur no later than November 18.

Also, Kansas has a three-day grace period for advance mail ballots. Ballots postmarked by November 5 and received in the county election offices by November 8 will be eligible to be counted. As a result, there will be a slight increase in unofficial vote totals reflected on the election night reporting webpage from November 6-8. Ballot categories that may be added during this period include:

  1. Any ballots that were hand counted.
  2. Mail ballots received on or before election day but not yet processed.
  3. Mail ballots that were postmarked by election day and still being processed.
  4. Any other legally cast ballots not included in Tuesday’s unofficial count.

Official results will be provided on the Secretary of State’s website after the State Board of Canvassers have certified the election. This will take place on December 2.

“Although we are all eager for final results, please remember that election night results are unofficial,” Schwab said. “Presidential elections naturally drive higher voter turnout, so please be patient with county election officials as they work to ensure accurate results.”
