Notice of Meeting
Notice is hereby given to all interested persons that an in-person public meeting will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the National Center for Aviation Training (NCAT) (Building 300), WSU Tech, 4004 N. Webb Rd., Wichita, KS 67226, with a formal presentation at 6:00 p.m. The event will take place across from the Administration Center Plaza (Building 100), and free parking is available. Handicap access also is available.
Project information and exhibits prepared by the project partners, with the help of the design team led by WSP USA, will be available for public review and comment at the meeting, which will be an open house format. Project partners include the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the City of Wichita, Kansas.
Attendees can review the conceptual design of the K-96 Improvements Project, which extends from the K-96 and I-135 interchange (near Hydraulic Street) approximately 9.5 miles east/southeast to north of the K-96/U.S. 54/400 interchange in Wichita, Kansas. Persons may discuss the project and offer comments at the public meeting. Written statements and exhibits as well as oral statements will be received at the meeting.
In conjunction with the public meeting, meeting materials will be available on the project website at https://K96improvements.com from February 2, 2023 to March 3, 2023. The project website will have the same project information and exhibits that were available at the in-person event. People can submit comments or questions on the website. Any written or emailed statements and exhibits received will be made part of the public meeting record.
The preliminary design phase of the K-96 improvements project is currently underway, and the design team is continuing its investigative work. The team is exploring potential design concepts along with environmental review to assess environmental, economic, and social impacts. Public input is requested at the public meeting on the findings from both the design and environmental review work. Project partners and design team members will share the proposed design concepts for the K-96 corridor, including expanding the highway from four to six lanes, and making improvements to seven interchanges: Hillside, Oliver, Woodlawn, Rock, Webb, Greenwich, and 21st. The project is part of the IKE development pipeline.
Copies of this information can be provided by written request to: KDOT Wichita Metro Engineer, Kansas Department of Transportation, 3200 E. 45th St. N, Wichita, KS 67220. Written statements and exhibits will be made a part of the public meeting transcript if received before March 4, 2023.
